CRACKLE research team wins Literati Network Award for Excellence


The CRACKLE (Centre for Research in Applied Cognition, Knowledge, Learning and Emotion) research team of Geoff Sallis (Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and PhD candidate) and Di Catherwood, Graham Edgar, Andrew Medley and David Brookes has won an Outstanding Paper Award at the Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2013 (Emerald Publishing Group) for their paper entitled Fire alarm or false alarm?!: Situation awareness and decision-making “bias” of firefighters in training exercises, published in the International Journal of Emergency Services last year.

The paper reported on findings from the team’s ongoing project in fireground decision-making being conducted collaboratively by the Gloucestershire FRS and CRACKLE staff. The research covered in the paper was also awarded a Research Excellence Prize at 2012 Fire-related research conference.
