{"id":2352,"date":"2015-08-31T20:55:23","date_gmt":"2015-08-31T19:55:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniofglos.blog\/creativewriting\/?p=2352"},"modified":"2015-08-31T20:55:23","modified_gmt":"2015-08-31T19:55:23","slug":"the-closing-down-of-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uniofglos.blog\/creativewriting\/2015\/08\/31\/the-closing-down-of-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"The Closing Down of Summer?!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s hard to believe it&#8217;s actually August 31st, and that autumn, and the start of the academic year, is just around the corner.\u00a0 For the past couple of months our course blog has settled into a lovely summer lull, during which we (the collective we, meaning both students and lecturers) were all no doubt hard at work on our writing, and also busy catching up on our reading (including tearing through Johnston&#8217;s latest page-turner, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbicanpress.com\/secret-baby-room-vivid-summer-read-2015\/\">The Secret Baby Room<\/a><\/em>, which made for the perfect summer read).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/uniofglos.blog\/creativewriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2019\/01\/stroud-short-stories-image-2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1920\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/uniofglos.blog\/creativewriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2019\/01\/stroud-short-stories-image-2.jpg?resize=300%2C199&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"stroud short stories image 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>Now it&#8217;s time to start limbering up in anticipation of induction week, and the autumn Semester.\u00a0 Watch this space for more details about the brilliant events we&#8217;ve got organized to kickstart 2015-16, including Creative Writing society socials, the launch of the <em>Compass<\/em> anthology, and new issues of <em>Show Don&#8217;t Tell<\/em> &#8211; among other things.\u00a0 If you&#8217;d like to get your writing skills in shape before we move into full swing, why not polish up some of your summer scribblings to send to the latest <a href=\"http:\/\/stroudshortstories.blogspot.co.uk\/\">Stroud Short Competition<\/a>?\u00a0 The deadline is September 25th, the word limit is 1,500, and our students have had success with it in the past.\u00a0 This time around the the emphasis is on &#8216;strange, spine-chilling, and bizarre tales&#8217;
