{"id":2410,"date":"2015-10-05T10:57:32","date_gmt":"2015-10-05T09:57:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniofglos.blog\/creativewriting\/?p=2410"},"modified":"2015-10-05T10:57:32","modified_gmt":"2015-10-05T09:57:32","slug":"team-uog-strikes-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uniofglos.blog\/creativewriting\/2015\/10\/05\/team-uog-strikes-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Team UoG Strikes Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The other week Creative Writing Lecturer and BA Course Leader Tyler Keevil was down in London to read at Waterstones Picadilly for the most recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewordfactory.tv\/\">Word Factory<\/a> short story salon.\u00a0 He performed alongside, and was in conversation with, Diriye Osman, Toby Litt, and Carys Davies, recent winner of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/culture\/books\/carys-davies-wins-frank-o-connor-short-story-award-1.2277758\">Frank O&#8217;Connor Short Story Prize<\/a> for her stunning collection, The Redemption of Galen Pike.\u00a0 The readings and interview with host Cathy Gavin should be on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewordfactory.tv\/site\/video-readings-in-conversation\/\">WordFactory.tv <\/a>shortly, so you&#8217;ll be able see Tyler hamming it up if you&#8217;re not sick of hearing him in your classes.<\/p>\n<p>More importantly, on the same night Word Factory announced the winners of its Neil Gaiman-inspired short story competition, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewordfactory.tv\/site\/winners-of-fables-for-a-modern-world-short-story-competition-announced\/#more-3603\">Fables For a Modern Word<\/a>.\u00a0 So imagine Tyler&#8217;s surprise when he looked out in the audience to see UoG MA student Rod Griffiths in the crowd, who had entered the contest and come to support the event.\u00a0 Then, to both their delight, Rod&#8217;s piece, &#8216;A Ghost&#8217;s Story,&#8217; was revealed as one of the winning entries.\u00a0 The challenge?\u00a0 To complete a fable based on Gaiman&#8217;s opening line: &#8216;<em>Long ago, in the days when there were still fish in the oceans and cars on the roads, there lived a woman who was not afraid of governments\u2026&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0 Rod&#8217;s winning piece will be published on the Word Factory <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewordfactory.tv\/site\/short-stories\/\">website<\/a>, and possibly in a forthcoming anthology;
