Just three weeks until submissions close for this year’s HUMAN Anthology. If you haven’t submitted yet and want to, but are struggling to think of something to write, here are a few seeds to throw down on that bleak writerly path of creativity: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Women\u2019s Day<\/strong> was on Sunday.\u00a0 Social Media was full of stories about incredible women doing incredible things. Maybe you know one who deserves to be heralded in this year\u2019s Anthology? You probably are one \u2013 tell us about something that\u2019s happened in your own life, something you\u2019re proud of, something you did, even though you never thought you could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

News<\/strong> \u2013 climate change, Coronavirus, terrorist attacks, Brexit \u2013\nthe news is ripe with stories about being human, what humans do\/create\/become\nand how they react.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ekphrasis<\/strong> \u2013 use a visual image, a piece of art or sculpture to\ninspire you. It could be an old master hanging in an art gallery, it could be a\npiece of graffiti on the side of a wall, it could be that photograph, remember,\nof that time you said you\u2019d never forget?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go for a walk<\/strong> \u2013 it\u2019s well documented that getting away from\nwherever you write helps clear the mind and allows your creativity to start flowing.  Take the dog out, borrow a dog, walk into\ntown, go for a coffee, and cake, maybe a scone – jam or cream first\u2026.?  That\u2019s just a British thing not a Human\nthing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Listen to music<\/strong> \u2013 switch off your brain, sit back and listen to\nmusic.  Relax the creative muscles, drift\noff, let the music flow into your body, let the lyrics do the talking, listen\nto the ebb and flow \u2013 sounds like dialogue? Are they arguing? Are they\ndebating? Is there a phrase, that\u2019s caught your attention\u2026 perhaps just a\ncouple of words \u2013 that\u2019s all it takes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
