On Friday 30th November 16 Level 4 and 5 students embarked on their Beanstalk Story Starter training.

We are partnering with Beanstalk Charity who are training our Level 4 and Level 5 Early Childhood Studies students to become Story starter volunteers.  This is a fully-funded project in conjunction with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and LuCid (based at the University of Liverpool).

Beanstalk Training

To take part in the trial schools and Early Years settings need to be able to select three children using specific criteria:

  • The child must be 3 or 4 years old
  • The child lacks a rich language experience in the home environment
  • Does not have a developmental disability (e.g. cerebral palsy, ASD, Fragile X syndrome, Muscular dystrophy, Di George syndrome, Down syndrome, Williams syndrome).

LuCid is measuring the impact of this project.  Our 16 ECS students will deliver sessions twice a week over 24 weeks.   Students will be sharing stories and supporting literacy development with three children each week on a one-to-one basis.
