BA Education Residential a Great Success

A group of 24 Level 6 BA (Hons) Education students and 3 (+1) members of the Education team went on a residential to Longtown Outdoor Learning Centre last week as part of the module ES6010 Learning Outside the Classroom. We all had a fun and challenging time with many students achieving things that they did not realise that they were capable of. We went deep into caves with running (very) cold water, with half of the group entering into a cave via a waterfall! Climbing walls were scaled, icy canals were broken through using canoes and paddles and the group trekked up a big hill in the snow on Sunday when they arrived. Team building games in the evenings and the final night saw us roasting marshmallows over a fire…..shame about the pouring rain! The students were also able to gain an additional qualification as certified Visit Leaders which will be useful for their future career paths.

There was also downtime where Rick introduced the group to the name game and some of the budding artists amongst the group demonstrated their drawing skills playing Pictionary. We were also well fed and looked after by Doris in the kitchen with home cooked breakfast and dinner every day. There was lots of laughter and such a supportive atmosphere; it was great to see how people worked together so inclusively as a team and all students commented that they wished it had happened earlier as new friends were made by all.
