Moderation event for BEd3, PGCE and School Direct PGCE placements, 28th March 2019
4th April 2019
Last week, our annual moderation event took place at the Cheltenham Chase Hotel. Each year, we hold this important meeting with our partnership school mentors and class teachers who are hosting our BEd final year placement students, or hosting students on our PGCE or School Direct PGCE main placements. Many of our University Link Tutors were also in attendance, as were the external examiners for the primary PGCE and School Direct PGCE courses. The morning was expertly led by Emma Howell, our Primary Partnership Lead.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss grading and report writing, both to provide support and guidance for mentors and class teachers, and to ensure consistency across the range of students and partnership schools. Following some valuable input from Emma, mentors, class teachers and link tutors worked together in groups to compare evidence, discuss the grade descriptors, consider what might be included in the placement report and consider potential targets and support to help students maximise their progress over the remaining days of the placement.
As ever, the meeting was very well attended and a very valuable experience for all. The external examiners commented on how useful they and the school partners had found it and how good it was to see a genuine partnership working so effectively between the University and schools. It was fantastic to see how many of the mentors and class teachers had undertaken their own teacher training at the University of Gloucestershire (as can be seen by the number standing in the photograph below), which is testament to the strength of the partnership.
