National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination

The National Award for SEN Co-ordination is a statutory requirement for new SENCos to achieve within three years of appointment. The course is open to new, aspiring and experienced SENCos who may wish to update and review their thinking and practice.

It critically considers current issues, debates, theories, recent research findings and the practical implications of special educational needs provision. Study is on a part-time basis and assessment includes a presentation, a written assignment and a small-scale research project.

This programme enables you to achieve a Postgraduate Certificate (60 Masters level credits), which you can also use towards gaining the MA in Inclusive Education. In addition, students who have QTS/QTLS and complete a portfolio to evidence they meet NCTL learning outcomes for SENCos are eligible for the NASENCO Award.
