Teacher Training PGCE Secondary

Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

If you already have a degree, preferably in a subject that is relevant to the school curriculum, you can gain QTS by following the one-year, full-time Postgraduate Certificate of Education – either PGCE Primary or PGCE Secondary, depending on your area of interest.
Whichever you choose, you will have the opportunity of gaining 60 masters-level credits with clear progression onto the MA programme which will be beneficial if you’re looking to develop your knowledge at a later point.

PGCE Secondary

This programme aims to help you become a competent and effective teacher of your subject within the 11–18 age range.

You will be able to choose from three subject specialisms:

• Art and Design
• Mathematics
• Physical Education

There are a wide range of placements available for you to gain experience of different age-ranges and schools. You will spend 26 weeks in at least two schools where you will receive invaluable support from experienced teachers. The tuition and school placements are organised in blocks throughout the year.
