Students study Japanese calligraphy
22nd December 2015
Students in the Ecocriticism module had a workshop on Japanese calligraphy and learned how to write Japanese characters with the flowing movements of a brush. This follows two classes where students analysed Japanese haiku and animation, investigating how the visual and linguistic devices used in the works of art represent nature. The Ecocriticism module looks at new nature writing in the UK, Native American sayings, and Japanese poetry in the search for ways of using language that help people reconnect with nature.
