The prophetic ramblings of an imperfect soul

Hello

This week’s blog contains Alexander’s poem, The prophetic ramblings of an imperfect soul. Alexander was the second runner up in our “Celebrate Diversity” competition. As you will read, his entry was very different from the other two. Whilst I wasn’t involved in the judging, I understand that it generated a lot of discussion.

See what you think?

“Imagine a world with no disease, a world with no suffering. A world where every child is born equal with no hindrances of mind or body. Envision the potential of genetic modifications with an ability to cure all. An opportunity to eradicate suffering; for pain to become a fleeting memory. The possibility to construct life, and for all life to achieve its fullest potential; a promise of perfection.

Who will step up to define perfection?

What is perfection?

How quickly these questions will be forgotten as the thirst for consumption enthral all senses. Science labs will be turned to shopping malls, and hospitals into production lines. Fads and trends will slowly digress from wants into needs. Vanity and insecurities begin to ebb away freedom of choice and the injection of indoctrination serves as a blue light to be blindly drawn to. With the increase in technological capacity, genetic manipulation becomes viable before birth; autonomous freedom has been drained as the perfect human is formed.

“Why choose anything less?”

Is the propagating messages driven into emerging parents. Individuality is merging into identicality. Eugenics is masked behind advertisements; as the same faces look down upon the same crowds. Void and empty of all soul, diversity has died. The subtle nuances and hues of human life was the driving force of liberty. Yet with liberty came inequality, true happiness lies in identicality; all the billboards say so.

‘Similarity is Peace’

‘Similarity is Equality’

‘Similarity is Solidarity’

Empty phrases, for empty minds. The very notion of perfection has stripped all forms of reasoning from the mind. Duped by the very hand of creation; the capitalist venture of the Gucci baby is not to be questioned. This conceived notion of similarity that has become ubiquitous; a blanket to quell all differences. The silver tonged giants that feed the lie into all pedagogical institutes leave the perfect creation an indoctrinated shell of existence. Similarity emulates the war that has been won. Capitalism is victorious.

‘Similarity is Totality’

‘Similarity is Simulation’

‘Similarity is Death’

The truth dies with diversity. What perfect ears would listen to the ramblings of an imperfect soul.”
