6. Video feedback – say it with some feeling!

The use of video feedback for Social Work students has been a positive addition to how we convey students’ academic progress on the course. In response to distrust in the marking process, we are trying to be more transparent. One module per year group now receives video feedback. Evaluation of this style of feedback has been positively received. The presentation will share how it is done and why it’s a good idea. Examples of the use of video in assessment and feedback will be presented and discussed. It will be lightning quick but thunderously received!

Key words:  video feedback, vulnerability, transparency, emotional intelligence,  intonation, paralanguage, trust.

About the presenter:  Davy Hambling, Academic Course Leader, has worked at UoG for the last 5½ years lecturing on the Social Work BSc (Hons) Degree. Areas of teaching and learning interest have included use of creativity and simulation activities in learning and assessment. Davy delivers training for social workers in practice on emotional intelligence and the courage of acknowledging our vulnerabilities and asking for help. Current research project is ascertaining students’ perspectives of how Child-Centred Practice is being realised in professional social work practice, drawing on their placement experiences.
