Neil Wynn – Where did our History students go?

The graduation ceremony last week was the usual great event – seeing last year’s students graduate is always enjoyable, and meeting proud parents makes you realize how important degrees are to individuals and families. It is good to catch up with people you taught and find out what they are up to – some are in teacher training, others in jobs – in libraries, the Post Office, retail – some preparing to enter the armed forces or police, some now engaged in postgraduate research. One former student recently completed an MA with Merit in Russian Studies at Birmingham. Some students take a year off after graduation and travel – one just e-mailed me from Vietnam where he is a volunteer, and he says he was inspired by his final year research on the Black Panthers! We often fail to appreciate the impact the History programme has on people, so it is wonderful to hear! If you are a former student do let us know what you are up to.
