Carrie Howse: Catch A Falling Star

catchafallingstarCongratulations to UG History PhD Carrie Howse on the publication of the second book in her planned family history trilogy. Catch a Falling Star (emp3books, 2014) picks up where The Sound of Silence (2013) left off.

The latest volume tracks the development of a ‘New Town’ in Essex, which finally destroyed the rural life of four villages that had been recorded in the Domesday Book. One of these villages, Tipmarsh, had been the family home of Carrie’s relatives for several generations. The new book examines social and cultural developments through the 1960s and takes the story up to 1970.

As such, then, in Carrie’s words, this is ‘a social history of our time’.
