Tredworth Transformed
25th July 2024
Six years ago we based the Landscape & Community module in the inner-city Gloucester suburb of Tredworth. We’d been invited to come up with some ideas to improve the visible landscape which was then looking sad and neglected after years of austerity. Our students responded in many different ways, a number offering visualisations of colourful transformations via street art.
Today I wandered around the area and was amazed to see an abundance of colourful murals apparently realising those earlier ideas. The current work is the creation of artist Tash Frootko (see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-68490188 and https://www.tashfrootko.com/news/visit-gloucester-high-street-tredworth-1). Here’s a selection of photos I took earlier. At the end of the piece I’ve included a few sample drawings from our student submissions of 2018 for you to compare. It goes to show how our ‘student projects’ truly reflect the kind of work we can get involved in.
For the record, our blog entry from 2018 is https://uniofglos.blog/landscapearchitecture/2018/10/18/tredworth-street-party-24th-june-2018/

Below are some ideas from our students in 2018 taken from their reports
