Plans are at an advanced stage to plant a tree at Francis Close Hall campus, Cheltenham, to commemorate a former landscape architecture student who went on to establish his own practice on the island of Jersey. David Dutson, who died this year, originally qualified with an honours degree and diploma in 1989 from the Gloucestershire College of Arts and Technology, a predecessor institute that formed the University of Gloucestershire.

Subsequently he moved to Jersey on a 3-year working contract for a landscape architectural practice and stayed there for 27 years, after which he set up his own chartered practice in 2016. The accompanying images, taken from a pdf he sent me some time ago, give a flavour of the work he undertook, including housing development, industrial and public realm projects, hospice and care homes, tourist attractions, education and private gardens.
