University of Gloucestershire Law student secures training contract at leading regional law firm
12th December 2016
Third year LLB Law student Carris Peacey has recently secured a training contract with one of the region’s largest law firms, Harrison Clark Rickerbys. Harrison Clark Rickerbys has expertise across a broad range of legal areas and has offices across the region, including Cheltenham, Worcester, Birmingham and Hereford.
Carris initially secured a place on the firm’s 2016 summer vacation scheme and obviously impressed those she was working with as she was asked to put forward an application for a training contract. Carris was one of over 320 applicants and did incredibly well to persuade the firm to offer her one of the places. The process involved, amongst other things: two interviews, a presentation to partners of the firm on a legal topic of her choosing, a whole day of assessment of legal problem solving, general reasoning, legal drafting and even maths.
Carris was obviously delighted at hearing the news and will be starting her training contract in Cheltenham in September 2018.
Her advice to other students in securing training contracts is, first, to use of the University’s careers service to ensure your CV and covering letters are as professional and polished as they can be. Second, to try and obtain a place on vacation schemes as they are an invaluable way of putting yourself ahead of the competition when it comes to training contracts.
