Third year student, Yazz, named as recipient of last year’s Family Law prize in collaboration with Stowe Family Law

The second year of collaboration between the Law School at University of Gloucestershire and Stowe Family Law has proven to be a great success. Stowe Family Law is the largest specialist family law firm in the UK with over 35 offices located throughout the country, including a local team of divorce solicitors in Cheltenham.

As part of the collaboration, the second-year students had the opportunity to hear practical insights about family law in practice from Louise Chipchase, the Managing Partner of the South West and Wales.  With the module being delivered online as a result of the Covid-19 restrictions, Louise was still able to engage with our students and provide an interactive insight into how financial remedies cases following separation are prepared, handled and decided.

As part of the collaboration, Stowe committed to offering a work experience placement to the student who obtained the highest module mark. This year, Yazz Allsworth attained the highest module mark after producing work of an outstanding standard in the two summative assessments in the module: a critical presentation on the adequacy of the laws relating to marriage and civil partnership, and a practical problem-based scenario on the effects of marital breakdown in relation to financial assets and child arrangements orders.  Yazz is now looking forward to the work experience opportunity; such an experience will be invaluable.

Speaking about the Family Law module, Yazz said:

“I’ve always had an interest in family law, however I never expected to become so interested and passionate about this area of law. I became particularly interested in the law of surrogacy and how this has developed over the years and the issues the law still presents today. Family law presents many topical issues that are not brought to light in everyday news and after doing the module I have started to look into a career within Family law. I am really excited to have achieved the highest mark in the module and to have been offered the opportunity of a week’s work experience with Stowe Family Law Firm”
