Archive Item of the Month – April 2011

With a certain wedding prevalent in the news, the archive item this month is an example of one of the many relationships to be struck up between St Paul’s College and St Mary’s College students. These photographs are taken from the St Paul’s Manuscript Chelt for 1955-1957 (reference UA34/1/64) and show the wedding of “Hugh and Dot”, students at St Paul’s College and St Mary’s College which went on to become the University of Gloucestershire. Many couples met at college, even though mixing of the sexes was very segregated during the Victorian and early twentieth centuries. Couples often come back to the University during reunion events, telling stories of how they met whilst students.
