12th March 2025

The Clock Tower is part of the original building at St Paul’s College, a predecessor college to the University of Gloucestershire. The land was donated by Miss Jane Cook in April 1848 and the college was built by Thomas Haines between 1849-50, (architect S W Daukes). It was opened by the Earl of Shaftesbury in1850.

The university’s archive holds many photos of the tower over its lifetime, and indeed photos of all its campuses. If you would like to visit the archive to find out more, please email [email protected] or call 01242 714851. Appointments are available Monday 1pm – 5pm, Wednesday 1pm – 5pm and Friday 11am – 5pm.
