Albert Armitage was a student at Cheltenham Training College from 1909 – 1911, and was originally from Mansfield. After qualification he worked as a teacher at York Street School in Mansfield.

He was a Private in the 1st/ 8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) and died at Ypres on 15 June 1915, aged 24. He is buried in Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery in Belgium.
