Albert George Gostlow was born in Middlesex in 1893 and later lived at 14 Swindon Street, Cheltenham. He had been a pupil at St Paul’s Practising School. Prior to the war he worked for the General Electric Company at Edgbaston before becoming a Lance Corporal in the 10th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment.

He was killed in action along with nine other ex-Practising School pupils on the first day of the Battle of Loos, 25 September 1915, aged 22. He left a wife, Bertha, and a young son. His body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
