Alfred Charles Carey was the son of Mr and Mrs Tom Carey of Malmesbury House, Kingsditch, Cheltenham, born in 1889. He emigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1905 where he married and had two children.

Alfred enlisted as a Private in the 43rd Battalion Canadian Infantry and was killed in Belgium on 16 August 1916, aged 27. He is buried at the Railway Dugouts Burial Ground (Transport Farm).
