Alfred Ernest Christie Dix was born in 1885 and had been a pupil at St Paul’s Practising School.

He joined the 10th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment as a Private. Alfred was killed at the end of the Battle of Bazentin on 20 July 1916, and as he has no known grave is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial with other victims of the wider Battle of the Somme. Alfred was the brother of William Dix of 18 Victoria Place, Bath Road, Cheltenham.
