Alfred James Suddens was originally from Coventry, and became part of the 1908 – 1910 year group at Cheltenham Training College.

He became a Company Sergeant Major, the senior non-commissioned officer of a company, in the 2/4th Battalion Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He would have been responsible for administration, standards and discipline, along with ensuring the supply of ammunition to the company. Alfred was fighting in the Aisne region when he died on 21 March 1918. He was initially buried, then exhumed and re-buried at Premont British Cemetery.
