Arthur Colin Thacker had attended Chesterton Church of England School in Stoke on Trent and gained a first-class teaching qualification from Cheltenham in 1913.
He joined the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards as a Private and died on 25 September 1916. Arthur is buried at Guards’ Cemetery, Lesboeufs, in The Somme region. His gravestone reads “Thy Will Be Done”.
