Arthur Ingman Rowland was from Wigan, attending St George’s School before the Cheltenham Training College between 1903 – 1905. Arthur’s parents were Samuel and Margaretta, and he went on to live at 83 Sidney Road, Bootle, Liverpool with his wife Elizabeth.
He joined the 117th Battery Royal Garrison Artillery as a Gunner before being posted to the Western Front. Arthur lost his life in the Ypres sector on 27 October 1917, aged 33. He is buried at Menin Road South Military Cemetery, where his headstone reads “We Shall Meet Beyond the River. From his Loving Wife and Two Children”.
