Arthur William Pulham was the son of Mrs A A Pulham, living at 6 Chestnut Terrace, Charlton Kings, and later 11 St Paul’s Street South.
Arthur had been a Private in the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment since May 1913, being sent to the Western Front on the outbreak of war in August 1914. He became a prisoner of war at Ypres and spent the remainder of the conflict in captivity in Germany. When Allied Forces liberated prisoner of war camps after the Armistice Arthur was suffering from influenza which went on to claim his life at age 24 on 24 December 1918. He is buried in Hamburg Cemetery, where his headstone reads “Your memory’s ever dear, with us today, from Mother, Sisters and Brothers”.
