Charles Dutton was the son of Charles and Mary Dutton of 30 Rutland Street. He had been a pupil at St Paul’s Practising School.
He became a Private in the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment and was wounded during the Battle of Béthune during the spring offensive of 1918. Charles died of his wounds eight days later on 27 April 1918 in hospital in Boulogne and is buried at Boulogne East Cemetery. His headstone reads “Neither Can They Die Any More. St Luke 20.V.36”.
