Charles William Taylor was the eldest son of James and Mary Ann Taylor of 2 Swindon Street, Cheltenham, born in 1885.

He enlisted as a Private in the 8th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment and was married on 15 May prior to his departure to France on 18 July 1915. His battalion took part in operations at the Battle of Loos then moved to Richebourg-L’Avoue where Charles was killed on 13 December 1915. He was 30 years old and is buried at Rue-Des-Berceaux Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L’Avoue.
