Cyril James Wentworth lived at Daisy Nook, Swindon Road and was the son of Alfred James Wentworth.

He enlisted as a Private in the Gloucestershire Regiment on 14 September 1914, travelling to France in May 1916. After the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line his battalion was stationed near St Quentin where they built new trench lines that would later withstand the German offensive of 1918. It was whilst building these lines that Cyril was killed by an artillery shell on 28 April 1917. Having no known grave he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
