Daniel William Sullivan was born in 1888 to Daniel and Winifred Mary Sullivan. After attending the Practising School he played football for Cheltenham Town F.C. and was a well-known athlete. He worked at Cheltenham Gas Company and volunteered in August 1914.

He was a Corporal in the 1st/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment and died on 21 July 1916 whilst attempting to take German positions near Leipzig Redoubt, north-east of Ovillers-La-Boisselle. He is buried at Pozières British Cemetery. Daniel was in the same battalion as fellow Practising School pupils Arthur William Sims and Stanley George Wilson, all of whom died on the same day.
