Edgar Gideon Wicksey was the son of Gideon Wicksey, a china packer, and lived at 35 Marle Hill Road whilst a pupil at the Practising School. He worked at Messrs Drake and Co. Drapers and Outfitters in Winchcombe Street after leaving school.
Edgar then emigrated to Canada and travelled to Belgium as a Private in the 123 Pioneer Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force. His battalion took Passchendaele Village from enemy hands on 6 November 1917, but Edgar died four days later during the final push to secure the area. He left a widow Rachel and three children living at Niagara Falls.
