Edgar Carpenter was a student at Cheltenham Training College from 1910 – 1912 and was originally from Bath. As a student, he was a member of the 1st rugby team.

He was a Corporal in the 6th Battalion London Rifles and was killed in action on 21 April 1915 aged 24. He is buried at the Guards Cemetery, Windy Corner, Cuinchy, France.
