Edward Dicks was born c.1876 and had been a pupil at the Practising School. He then went on to work at Cheltenham Gas Company for over 20 years before enlisting on 30 November 1914.
He was a Private in the 2nd Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment and died at the battle of Frezenberg on 14 May 1915, aged 39. He left a widow and 8 children at home in Cheltenham. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial and has no known grave.
