Edward George Ricketts was born on 3 August 1897 and lived at 29 Marle Hill Road with his parents Edward and Florence. He had been a member of the St Paul’s Boys’ Brigade and went to work in an office when he left school.

After enlisting as a Private in the 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment in 1914 he was sent to France. Edward was killed at the age of 20 while fighting in the River Lys region, the same area as fellow Practising School pupil Thomas Redman. Edward has no known grave and is honoured on the Loos Memorial at Dud Corner Cemetery.
