Eric Barnett lived at 13 St Paul’s Parade with his parents, John and Jane.

He enlisted as a Private firstly in the 1/5th Territorial Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment before transferring to the 8th Battalion Devonshire Regiment. Eric died on 4 October 1917 whilst trying to advance with his company in the Ypres region under heavy fire and during bad weather. He is buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery where his headstone reads “For Freedom, His Sacrifice”. He was aged 22.
