Evan Lloyd Davies was born at Yattenden, Berkshire, to William and Rhoda. He had been a pupil at Central Board School, Reading, before coming to Cheltenham. He trained to be a teacher between 1902 – 1904. After leaving college he went on to marry Grace and lived at 90 Hillside, Moulsecomb, Brighton.

Evan became a Corporal in the 1st/ 4th Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment and was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in battle. He died aged 35 on 5 November 1918, less than a week before Armistice. Evan is buried at Reading Cemetery.
