Francis Holland Jones became a Cheltenham student in 1915 but commenced his studies at Chester Training College as by then Cheltenham Training College had closed due to the conflict. He came from Stoke-on-Trent and had attended Grove Senior School in Hanley.
Francis joined the 13th Battalion Durham Light Infantry as a Private and was killed on 9 June 1917. He was 21 years old. He is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial as his body was never identified.
