Frank Godsell was born in 1890 to John and Rosetta Fanny Godsell of 29 Brunswick Street.

He initially enlisted as a Private in the 1/5th Territorial Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment before being transferred to the 9th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers. They served at the Battle of Loos in September 1915 before taking part in an early offensive in the Somme region in July 1916. Frank died on 3 July 1916 securing the village of La Boisselles after heavy bombing by the Germans. He was 26 years old and after initially being buried and exhumed he finally rests at Serre Road Cemetery No.2. His headstone reads “Gone but not forgotten”.
