George Henry Greening lived at 47 Marle Hill Road before becoming a Corporal in the 12th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment.
He fought in Italy and France, where on 25 June 1918 he was killed while serving on the front line. He was buried, exhumed then finally laid to rest at Aval Wood Cemetery where his headstone reads “Bravely He Went, To England’s Call; His Duty Done, Though He Did Fall”
