George Stainforth, originally from Hull, was a Cheltenham Training College student from 1910 – 1912. He was the son of Mr and Mrs J. Stainforth, of 4 John Street, Hull, and the husband of A. M. Stainforth, of St. Chad, Barrow-on-Humber. Whilst at college he was the captain of the rugby team.

He was a Second Lieutenant in the 13th Battalion The King’s (Liverpool Regiment) who died on 14 July 1916, aged 25. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial in France, having died at the Somme and having no known grave.
