Gordon Nelder was originally from Portsmouth and became a student at Cheltenham Training College from 1908 – 1910. Whilst at college he was a member of the tennis and soccer teams, and Nineveh house group. Gordon went on to teach at the Boys’ Higher Grade School in Cambridge whilst joining the University for degree work.

He was a Second Lieutenant in the 13th/ 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment and died at Gallipolli on 6 August 1915. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial in Turkey, having no known grave.
