Henry Horatio Edward Ferguson was the son of George and Elizabeth Ferguson of 10 Hazelwood Terrace, Peverell, Plymouth. He attended Johnston Terrace Board School in Devonport before coming to Cheltenham to train as a teacher from 1906 – 1908.
Henry went on to become a Captain in the 14th Battalion Highland Light Infantry and was fighting in the Somme region when he died on 23 September 1917, aged 29. He is buried in the Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery where his headstone reads “Farewell! Till He Whose Home Is Ours Above Unites Us There”.
