Herbert Henry Williams attended Sandford Street Council School in Swindon before coming to train as a teacher at Cheltenham Training College in 1912. Herbert was the son of Mr and Mrs T H Williams who lived at 85 Curtis Street, Swindon.
He went on to become a Captain in the 6th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, and had the honour of being mentioned in dispatches during the conflict. He died on 20 September 1917, aged 23, and is buried at Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery in Belgium. His headstone reads “Faithful Unto Death”.
