Herbert Wingfield was a Cheltenham Training College student from 1907 – 1909. He was originally from Plaistow, Newham, East London, and gained distinctions in his final Geography and History examinations. He was the son of Samuel Wingfield, of 59A Geere Road, Stratford, London, and husband of Mary Elizabeth Wingfield, of 228 Hessle Road, Hull.

Herbert was a Sergeant in the 13th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment and died on 30 June 1916, age 28. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial in France and has no known grave.
