Jack Leslie Oliver was the son of Frank and Emily Oliver of 16 Albert Place, Cheltenham. He worked as a hairdresser before enlisting in the Royal Field Artillery as a Gunner.

He was wounded by accident when a mortar bomb prematurely exploded, and died at a casualty clearing station on 30 December 1916. Jack was 21 years old. He is buried at La Neuville Cemetery, Corbie, where his grave is marked by a cross.
