James Aston was born in the St Peter’s area of Cheltenham and later lived at 60 Upper Norwood Street. In January 1918 he married Miss N Young.
James became a Lance Corporal in the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards and died during the Battle of Cambrai on 9 October 1918. He is buried at Masnieres British Cemetery where his grave is marked by a cross.
