James Kidd was born in 1893 to James and Tamara Kidd, who ran the Hanover Inn in Hanover Street.

He became a Private in the Royal Defence Corps, formed in 1916 to recruit soldiers who were unable to join the regular army due to age or disability. He died on 25 February 1917 age 24 and is buried in Cheltenham Cemetery.
