John Huyton attended Cheltenham Training College from 1913 – 1915, having been a pupil at Middleport Church School, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.

He became a Second Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) and died on 28 May 1917. John is buried in Fampoux British Cemetery, Pas de Calais.
